The Aztecs used symbols to represent the names of days. There were 20 days to their month. A day symbol was referred to as tonalpouhque or, tonallo. The 260 day (20x13) calendar of destiny was called the Tonalpohualli. A person's destiny was their tonalli. The solar year, known as the xuihpohualli, is based on 18 months of 20 days plus 5 days.

MALINALLI "Dry-Grass" - Implying a "rebirth", as grassy fields that seemed dead when dry, returned to
life again each spring. Protected by Patecatl, Lord of Healing Herbs.
COATL "Serpent" - Arose from the earth to create the power of the Second Sun. A day for seeking truth
and wisdom. This day protected by Chalchiuhtlicue, Lady of flowing water.
MAZATL "Deer" - Reveled as the owner of great swiftness. A day for swift justice and aggressive military conquest. Governed by Tlaloc, the keeper of rain and lighting.
CUAUHTLI "Eagle" - Embodiment of the sun and origin of first sun. A day for renewal and rebirth. Ruled
by Xipe-totec; Lord of Springtime and New Fires.
MIQUIZTLI "Afterworld" - The realm of the moon and night. The day for fasting, penitence and a time to
seek forgiveness. Ruled by Tecuhciztecatl, Lord Moon.
COZCACUAUHTLI "Condor" - The winged spirit of the night. A day of darkness and reflection. Protected
by "Lady of the Dark," Itzpapalotl, the "Obsidian Butterfly".
QUIAHUITL "Fire-Rain" - Storms and lightning. A day for agricultural fertility. Protected by Tonantiuh,
"Lord Sun" along with Chantico, "Goddess of the Hearth Fire".
TECPATL "Flint" - This glyph means a knife as sharp as the teeth depicted. A day for sacrifice, warfare,
justice, breaking old ties: habits. Ruler; Tezcatlipoca as Chalchiuhtolin.
XOCHITL "Flower" - Precious flower, goddess of love, Xochiquetzal who lives in paradise, protects people
in love and the day light moon. A day for feasting and fun.
OZOMATLI "Monkey" - The power of magic and tricks. This is the day of ambition and business. Ruling god;
Flower Prince of Art, Love and Springtime; Xochipilli.
OLLIN "Movement" - This symbolized earthquake. A day for business and sports. Ruled by the "monster twin"
Xolotl (the underworld Venus wrestling with Cipactli).
TOCHTLI "Rabbit" - Moved among the fleeting shadows of the night sky. A day for planing alternative outcomes.
